As part of academic research and my own interests in Japanese performance culture, I borrowed a copy of A Kabuki Reader. From this, I compiled an essay that follows the trends of kabuki in Japanese society from its influences to its status as a national icon. This history is rich and rife with detail that I would recommend this journal to any interested in Kabuki and other forms of Japanese theatre.
